History of Dizin Ski Resort

Dizin Ski Resort was established during the 1960s, a period of growing interest in mountain sports and tourism in Iran. The main goal of its construction was to create a standard complex for hosting ski competitions and attracting both domestic and international tourists.
Construction began in 1969, and the resort officially opened in 1970. Over the years, Dizin has expanded its facilities and has become recognized as Iran’s first international ski resort. After reviewing its geographical features, snow quality, and infrastructure, the FIS officially approved Dizin as a venue for international competitions.
In the following decades, new facilities—including hotels, restaurants, cable cars, and training slopes—were added, transforming Dizin into a fully equipped resort for sport, leisure, and accommodation. Today, Dizin stands as a symbol of Iran’s skiing history and remains a year-round destination for snow lovers and mountain adventurers.

Cable Cars

Dizin features several main cable car lines that extend from the lowest part of the resort to the highest peaks. These gondolas provide fast and safe access to various ski slopes and summit areas.
The Dizin cable car system is built according to international safety standards and operates regularly throughout the winter season. Each cabin accommodates up to four passengers, offering panoramic views of the Alborz Mountains and snow-covered landscapes along the way. These gondolas are among the main attractions of the resort, combining comfort, efficiency, and scenery.

Chairlifts

In addition to the cable cars, several chairlifts operate at Dizin to transport skiers across the mid-elevation slopes. This system is especially useful for professional and experienced skiers who wish to quickly access different sections of the resort.
The chairlifts at Dizin are known for their safety and efficiency and are regularly inspected and maintained by technical staff throughout the ski season. The experience of gliding above the snow-covered valleys while surrounded by mountain peaks offers visitors an exciting and unforgettable view of the Alborz range.

Button Lifts (Ski Lifts)

The button lifts—also known as ski lifts—form an essential part of Dizin’s slope transportation system. They are mostly used in training areas or lower-elevation runs.
These lifts are especially convenient for beginners, allowing them to return to the starting point without long uphill walks. Dizin has several operational button lifts that are regularly serviced and kept in excellent condition. They play a key role in improving accessibility across the slopes and supporting ski instruction activities.

Ski Slopes

Dizin offers a wide variety of ski slopes suitable for different levels of skill—from gentle beginner runs to long and challenging tracks for professionals. The longest slope at Dizin is about 7 kilometers, starting at an altitude of over 3,600 meters.
All routes are well-marked with signs, safety indicators, and are maintained with snow-grooming machines. The snow quality is among the best in the region, ideal for alpine skiing and snowboarding. This diversity and high standard have made Dizin the venue for numerous national and international ski competitions..

Ski School and Training Facilities

Dizin’s ski school is run by certified professional instructors who offer courses for children, teenagers, and adults at all skill levels. The training programs include alpine skiing, snowboarding, and mountain safety techniques.
All necessary gear—such as skis, boots, helmets, and clothing—can be rented on site. This facility is particularly valuable for beginners who wish to learn safely in a professional and supportive environment. The school’s structured lessons and high standards have made it one of the best training centers for winter sports in Iran.

Accommodation

Dizin offers several hotels and lodging options, the most well-known being Hotel Dizin and Hotel Gajereh. Both are located near the slopes and provide cozy rooms, restaurants, parking, and internet access.
Additionally, there are mountain chalets and cottages available for short-term stays. Their proximity to the slopes allows guests to reach the ski areas easily. The peaceful atmosphere, clean mountain air, and scenic views make staying at Dizin an enjoyable and refreshing experience for all visitors.

Restaurants and Cafés

Throughout the resort, several restaurants and cafés serve a range of hot meals, drinks, and light snacks. Among the most popular are the Station 1 Restaurant and the Summit Café, both offering spectacular views of the snow-covered mountains.
These venues provide not only delicious food but also a cozy place for skiers to rest after long hours of activity. Enjoying a cup of coffee or a bowl of hot soup at 3,500 meters above sea level is one of the simple yet unforgettable pleasures of visiting Dizin.

Velayat Rud

Dizin Ski Resort lies in the Alborz Mountains near the village of Velayat Rud — the largest in Nesa Rural District of Karaj County, Alborz Province. With around 1,382 residents, Velayat Rud offers a peaceful gateway to Dizin, surrounded by scenic valleys and mountain views. (Source)
